Multiple Drug-Resistant Organisms (MDROs)

Organisms that have developed resistance to multiple antibiotics include but are not limited to:

  • Methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)
  • Vancomycin-resistant enterococcus (VRE)
  • Extended-spectrum beta lactamase producing gram negative bacilli (ESBL)
  • Carbapenemase-resistant enterobacteriacae (CRE)
  • Multi-resistant gram negative rods

Infection prevention methods include but are not limited to:

  • Proper hand hygiene
  • Appropriate isolation precautions (contact)
  • Antibiotic stewardship

The Infection Prevention Alert System identifies patients who are:

  • Newly diagnosed with MDROs
  • Readmitted or transferred with known history of
